My family and I were fortunate enough to spend our Christmas / New Year holidays in Honolulu / Waikiki, Hawaii. We had a great time exploring the island (Oahu) and learning many interesting facts about history and life on this beautiful island. Places we visited are: Pearl Harbour (USS Missouri and USS Arizona Memorial), Diamond Head outlook, Paradise Cove (Luau), Waikiki Beach, Kualoa Ranch (Chinese hat island), Dole Plantation, The Royal Hawaiian Hotel, Sunset Dinner Cruise, and much more…. And Yes President Obama was also there…but we were too busy visiting him….hehe

Azure Restaurant is located within the Royal Hawaiian Hotel (Pink Hotel)
Grilled Kauai Prawns
directly at Waikiki Beach. The setting is sort of Moroccan / Spanish with a classic and simple style. The service was good and friendly. We ordered the degustation set menu which came with matching wines. The food was presented very nicely, cooking methods were applied correctly and flavour – taste – texture balance was fine. In some areas more finesse would have been appropriate like Manila Clams Adobo style – which were excellent in flavour but had nothing much to do with Manila or Adobo. Overall a great reflection and combination of the fantastic local seafood (e.g. Ahi Tuna), European cooking techniques and Pacific Island heritage (Asian) influences. Great place for outdoor (Al fresco) fine dining in Waikiki. Bookings essential!

Lemon – Citrus Dessert “surprise” for New Years Eve
(Westin) at Waikiki Beach. On NYE we enjoyed the set-menu. The service was good and friendly. The food was OK…the appetizer had more salad leaves than tuna slices. The King crab meat fritters were OK. The soup tasted fine but the components were too big…I had to cut them in 1/2 (Scallops, Lotus root, Pork belly, etc…). The main course (Prime rib) was cooked to perfection (Medium). The dessert was exquisite and presented very well (see picture). Overall a pleasant evening which followed with a beach side NYE party and the traditional Waikiki Beach fireworks.

we didn’t….because the line (waiting) is about 1-2 hours long!! We lined up for take-away (1/2 hour) and bought 3 kinds of Cheesecake (Lime, original and chocolate) slices. They were OK but nothing to write home about it. The original one was the best in flavour, taste and texture. The others were too rich and too heavy. There are better places in Waikiki to grab a meal or two!
